Miele smoke test

 Don't they do that on the Oreck commercial too?
I am sure when the Air-Wayman demonstrated the 88 to my mom WAY back in 1964 he did a version of that test with cigarette by smoke being sucked into the top of the Sanitizor while it was runnning.
Funny how I bet not many of us vacuum up smoke every week.

Has anyone noticed what silly things they use for the demo's on QVC and HSN to show how well the machines pick up?
How many times do you fill your machine with beans or kitty litter.

How often do you find yourself vacuuming smoke?

 Smoke is made up of a very high concentration of extremely fine particles, which doesn't accurately simulate household dust. It looks convincing as part of a sales pitch, but doesn't really reflect domestic use.

There's almost always a trade-off in design; in the case of vacuum filters, you can engineer the fibres to mesh more closely together to trap finer particles, but as you do so, you create a bigger resistance to the airflow. This filter will require more motor power to push or pull airflow through it, whilst maintaining pick-up. It will also clog quicker, requiring more frequent - and often costly - replacements, to allow optimum performance.

I guess you have to ask yourself, 'How much filtration do I really need?'. Chronic asthma or allergy sufferers will find it more important than average consumers.

With regards to Miele's filtration, Which? Magazine's website currently displays the test results for 17 different variants of the S4, S5 and S7 models. Every single one has been awarded 'Best Buy' status, and every single one has received 5/5 stars for filtration in lab tests - even those using the most basic, free-with-a-box-of-bags 'Airclean' filters.
