We are in Kansas City looking around the vacuum shops. Our first stop is in Odessa, where unfortunately I come up dry. Then it's off to Independence where we visit Mr C's on 23rd. They had a nice vintage Celebrity Elite canister, but I did not get the price. A few streets up, we visit their second location, aka "Way Overpriced City." A "used" U4453 costs $59, a "new" Guardsman U4515 from Jan 1988 costs $200, and a "new" Innovation red bag costs $150. At Mr C's South Kansas City location, it's the same thing, overpriced. A U4409 with the
gray hood and the generic beige top fill bag is $75, a Concept one is $100. Up in Gladstone is the American Vacuum Company, where they had zilch and their "graveyard" isn't open to the public. Going south on 435 we stop at the Raytown Vacuum Shop, where I manage to find this Montgomery Ward badged bagless Hoover Convertible for $10. He also had a U4119 he'd sell me for $10, but I declined, thinking I had won the same thing on eBay (Which I didn't). And in Blue Springs, it's the House of Vacuums on Highway 40, where I come up dry too, but the guy was nice enough to give me his yellow pages from last year.

And after cleaning out the cobwebs, spritzing the motor with air duster, and putting in a new light bulb, the thing works.

Also, does anyone know how to remove the cloth upper bag off the dust cup so I can wash it? And if anyone has a spare top fill bag tube and/or a blue striped vinyl/cloth bag please email me!!

its not too hard to remove the bag, just look inside of the bag, with the cup removed, and it will explain itself. pry firmly but very carefully with a not-too-sharp prying object, such as a screwdriver.

be prepared to loose the bags lettering/graphics when you wash it. also, see about replacing the foam seal that the dirt cup seats against. the seals arent very durable.

Bag Graphics....

Unless the bag is smelly dirty Id just clean inside with a suction cleaner. As David says they will disappear if washed- especially as they look worn anyhow!!!.

Just my opinion!!

Also....

Again just my opinion...

IF the Innovation was N.O.S id have said it would be worth the money- same for the Guardsman if its N.O.S and the polished metal base version.

Anyone else agree???

I know Jeff, I've probably gone over 1000 miles and lord knows how much gas finding these. Next week it'll be the Kansas region of Kansas City, and this time I'll be sure to call beforehand to save me the frustration

Is that model U8855? I won that model off ebay. The only thing different than the one I will be getting soon is that the handle is brown and matches the base. That handle looks like it has been replaced at one point. A Montgomery Wards by Hoover is rare to find.
