I am being given a very nice lux v for Xmas....a model I have always wanted....its a LUTON built model.

The Luton factory opened in 1927 as all fans of UK Luxes know, but how long was the production run for the 5's ?

Did it serve as a 'junior' or 'economy' model against such machines as say the 11,12,18 ?

Regards, Walter.

You are a lucky man, indeed! I would give my right eye for one of those. No, the Lux V was the first (although I don't know production numbers), and pre-dated the other models you have listed. Have you seen it yet? Does it have the detachable runners? I love how that model can convert to a stick vac.

Hello,

Yes I have seen it and its the next best thing to mint....and the runners are detachable.

The friend its coming from also has a mint 6,10,11, early and late 12's, 18, 25's x3, UK and SWEDISH 55's.

As you can imagine I'd like them all !!!!

Wow!

Now that's a RARE cleaner, and all the more so if it's in next-to-mint condition...whoever's giving it to you is a friend to treasure!

Below, I've posted a link to Paul Linnell's comprehensive 'Simply Switch On' site - I can't comment as to the accuracy of the information, because I know very little about the company itself, but it does feature the Model V. You could always try emailing him to see if he can help futher.

Here's me using a Lux Model V (I think!) at the UK Hooverland Meet 2007. It belongs to my friend Alistair. I think the pic was taken by Mike King:

Hello Jack,

I remember those photos of Mikes', they were great.

Was the Cadillac upright featured in those pics of that gathering the same one as seen on Paul Linnells' site ?

It looks like a 5 your using....odd carpet nozzle though ?

Regards, Walter.

Hi Walter -

the floor nozzle may have been one which Al substituted in the absence of the original, I forget now! I'll try and remember to ask him when I see him next.

The Cadillac is an American example, it belongs to Stephen Smith. I don't think he's a member of this site, but he's a member of the Hooverland Yahoo group if you want to contact him.

Hello Jack,

Although I don't have the tools for the 5 the tools from my 11 will fit......thats a good one as well: complete with box, instruction card, advertising leaflet and box of spare filters with re-ordering card.

Once again well done on the 575.

Regards, W.
