I kind of fudged on the date, but I need to find a decent quality replacement cord for my Panasonic upright. It has an intermittent short just beyond the clip on the handle. Do not want to cut and tape it!

Looking for a long length, at least what I have - ~25', with plug attached in dark brown or deep maroon. Not asking for a lot...

Anyone have a good resource?

Since Panasonic no longer offers it, that only leaves Kirby, which still offers it's colored cords still going back to the Dual Sanitronic era.

Machine Call Names, and the color of thier cords respectivly..

Dual Sanitronic - Avacado Green; Classic 1CR- Brown; Classic Omega 1CB- Rosewood ( a pretty color like Panasonic's maroon); Classic III 2CB- Red; Tradition 3CB- Blue; Heritage 1HD/HC- Gray; Heritage II- Black; and finally Legend II, which is a maroon color, (think pinkish maroon).

I can think of at least two colors that would look satisfactory on any of your machine(s). I cannot think of any other manufacturer that still offers cords in color, other than Kirby.

CAVEAT- It should be known that Kiby cords are EXPENSIVE, and unless you can still find the bojack Kirby cords molded in color...(which I believe are no longer available), you may want to do some foot work to find out if the color is suitable to you. Before you buy, then modify.

Clearly you will have to strip off the plug end (that goes into the cleaner/switch area, and wire it into the junctions on your Panasonic. Not to big a deal.

I believe that most Kirby cords were 30-35 ft. long, so you shoould have adequate length to be able to use your machine without any duress..

This is the Rosewood color, similar to Panasonic's burgandy/brown.

Another color. this is the light grey offered on the Original heritage Series. This could work with literally anything that one could have.

heres another hue by Kirby.... tradtional black, used on all heritage II series machines. This will work for any machine with an original black cord. If you saw my Apex at the convention...Well, this is what I used to record it...

this hue by Kirby.... could be used for many different applications. A soft light grey, used for the later G3 series machines....

This is the darker grey color used for the G4 series. Would also look fine with many vintage vacuum cleaners....

Another color fo cord by Kirby is... this one which is red. I used this very color to record my Eureka D-272, with beautiful results...

This hue I used when I re-corded my Sunbeam Courier that i no longer own. It's a perfect match-all 1970's vacuum cleaner color green. If your still confused (think *Hoover Convertible model 707*).

Kirby gives the the widest array of options for hue based cords of all others. I've used them in several rebuild/restorations..and they work GREAT...

This color is...Tradition blue. I used this to rebuild a Tradition, and a older Eureka with a shot cord.

This lovely hue from Kirby....solid brown. This would have been with the Classic model.

I've used this from recording my Hoover mdoel 28, to a replacement on a Panasonic canister Iused to have LONG ago...

A hue for every purse and purpose....

The Rosewood maroon is just what I need for the Modern Hygiene and the Westinghouse cylinders...and even the Canadian Lux 86/88 !!!

You should have no issue ordering several of each kind for your machines. As I said, as of last check, all of them, back to the 1967-70 Dual Sanitronic 80; are still available as NOS thru the Kirby company. www.kirby.com

Option A- If your not able to order them online, you may want to "hit up" one of your vacuum store owners, and talk to them about making a bulk Kirby Cord purchase. With times like these I'm sure the'd be willing to deal with you.....

Your probably looking at around $25.00-35.00 USD for each cord. As I said they are not cheap. If anyone asks for more, move on. Unless everywhere you go says the same price. then you may just have to deal and pay the piper...LOL... If you look hard enough, you may find a place that still may have some of the old bojack colored Kirby cords. The differece IIRC, was the plug end on the genuine item said Kirby in that famililar logo. The bojacks said nothing. And their plugs were somewhat different. They had the angel wings on the sides of the plug ( think triangle shaped), and were around $18.50 back then 1999-2000 yearsa.

Option B- I used to order all of my cords thru ESSCO (Electric Sweeper Service Company), and probably would do that still today if need be. Of course you must have an account to order anything and must have a minimum of like $15.00 per order. No problem if you do a bulk order at once. You may even get free shipping.

Option C- EEEEEEEHHHHHHH-bayheeeee...dot....com. That dirty word of the vacuum world. I saw several online just a few mintues ago. You may just be able to order one at a time, in the colors you can find available.

and Option D- Check with your local Kirby distributor. For the real old stuff, I never failed to get one or more thru my old dealer in Lansing Michigan. He even had a few older "microphone end cords, for the flippy switch era machines" ( think 505 series machines) still available from someplace. I'm sure there gone now. I haven visited that store in five years.

Anyway, I've had this secret for years. Many cords of hue that I've had to replace have been sourced thru Kirby.

I had that same idea last night after I posted. Did a little search, and came across all the colors you mentioned, seemed like the going price was $16-$20 depending on the style, if I recall they stated the length at 30'.

If I can make it through the holidays with it as it is I'll be happy, if worse comes to worse I could cut and tape it, not my first choice. Good job for Jan or Feb.
