Yeah I won that U4021 off of ebay just now! I am very excited, can anybody here look at the pictures and tell me what I might be in for. The only thing that looks like I would have to buy besides belts, and bags is a new roller.

Azman293, that's a beautiful Hoover for the first one! One of the spa tips is the Mister Clean Magic Eraser, the group pretty much swears by it. I don't know much about the lubes, but depending on what else you might hear from members, you can find some belts, and common type disposable bags from the grocery store. And the dollar stores often have bags, but it depends how decent they'd be at filtering dust. And I think even now, vacuum shops still stock bags for older models. |

You will need brasso for the plastic hood and some Simple Green for the bumper and any other soiled parts. I still use Windex the most when I give a machine the spa treatment. The grease I use is just simple axle grease found at Auto Zone. It is cheap and I put it in the bearings with a syringe. They make a grease gun for this purpose but I have never found the need for one. You will find your way when you restore the first one. After that, you will see that it does get easier and more fun. If you need a specific part, post your request on this FORUM! You will be amazed at the amount of expertise that is here. Folks on this forum are very generous not only with parts but with tips about how to do things. Please keep us all posted on how your newest find turns out. By the way Happy Hoovering!

Cleaning Tools
Just before I go out and start searching for them, is there a specific model number of cleaning tools I have to get for the U4021? |

azman, do you know what the converter looks like? sometimes sellers dont mention the model number. search "hoover tools" or "hoover attachments". they go for cheep on ebay.

No I do not know what the converter looks like. I also did not know the latter tools for the decade models worked to.

Here is a photo of the converter. It is part of the standard set 1031 in white. This set is the most popular set of the rear conversion sets. These were often given away with the cleaner as a promotion. These sets do come up a lot on ebay. Don't pay over $10 for a really, really nice set.

Nice Convertible
Lucky to find one with a nice original bag and cord, the hood doesn't look scuffed up either, all the ones I find have paint damage to the base, I've never tried painting one, Any good tips from anyone? |

Its here!
I will post some pictures tomorrow, tomorrow I am going to start the restoration on it. As for tonight I took it apart to sleep on it and also see what I was in for.. It looks like it was a basement vac when it met its replacer, there is a some corrosion under the hood, but a little steel wool can fix that. It is way more quiet then I would of ever expected, it seems so much louder in videos. I also took a look at the condition of the impeller, following the directions from one of hoover1060's posts in the archives. Overall it looks way better in person then in the pictures from ebay.

good buy I would say the brush roll is worth keeping just use a wire brush and scrub it good. you can buy new brush strips at your local vacuum store or I think you can order them online at hoover.com I have one in mint condition you can see it in my photos of collections. the machine is practically brand new. |

Alright here is the #1 question on my mind...
How do I take the brush roll all the way apart.. I can only get one end cap off and that is it, also what does the top motor bearing look like?? |
|
take a screw driver (flat head) place it in the middle of the of the screw on the end cap that you have taken off. next take a hammer and tap it a couple of times the other side should come out. it did for me and I took minwe apart the other day |
