After swearing to myself I would only concentrate on Electrolux and Hoover in my collecting, I am now the proud owner of a Eureka canister vacuum.

If you have read my portable dishwasher post here, you will know this was gifted to me by the fellow I purchased the dishwasher from.

It works great and he gave me two packages of bags/filters for it. The only slight thing wrong is there is a crack on the base of the hose, the part that connects to the vacuum, and depending how you move sometimes there is some air that escapes from there.

It is a fun vacuum to use, it is on wheels and I think it has a mind of its own, as it chases after me and sometimes goes its own way, bumping into things.

What can the Eureka experts out there tell me about this machine? This is model 3450 with an all metal body.

When you said yellow Eureka originally, I was picturing the one like Aeoliandave has. I found one like yours recently, and it has the huge powerhead on it, but the cord on the hose looked to jumbly and strange with the loose outer cord, I left it. It was there for weeks, so it may still be there. I had two similar vacuums in light blue that I bought pre collecting to clean out cars. They were wonderful, and I wish I could find another one or more like those. One was very small with a metal handle, and the other was an upper level model.

In this forum, I have noticed a new pattern of speech that I haven't seen anywhere else. Instead of saying, "Joe gave me a Kirby" or "I received a Kirby from Joe as a gift," I am seeing "Joe 'gifted' me a Kirby."

Where/when/how did the noun "gift" become a verb "gifted?" Mutated inflections of the English language such as this fascinate me and I wonder as to their origins.

Again, since I haven't seen this particular inflection anywhere else, I assume it started here.

I discovered and added the term "gifted" to my vocabulary from this site. I noticed that when folks received vacuums, etc from others here they referred to it as..."Bob gifted me this lovely Hoover today."

I think it sounds kind of sweet, and have adopted it myself.

What is that extra smaller hose for (see photo 3)? Is that an extension?

It should clean up real nice. Sorry I can't tell you much about them though. When you say it has a crack,is the crack in the actual hose itself or on the connector?

It is on the connector. The hose is fine.

I think it's a hose from a Eureka hand vacuum. It looks quite a bit like my Whisk hose.

That would be my guess as well. Maybe he had a hadvac stashed away as well that it was part of and he didn't realize?

Get your magic erasers ready and a tube of super glue. Thankfully super or Crazy glue now comes in those tiny tiny tubes 4 to a pack since the tube you last used dries out when you need it the second time LOL. I get those as well at Dollarama for a dollar

I think what he gave me was whatever he found with the vacuum in his house. When he moved in with his partner, he said this was left behind, and they did not use it. So I suspect if there was a hand vac, the owner of the house either took it or tossed it out. He did seem pretty determined to give me everything he had related to this vacuum.

I will go out and get the crazy glue, and Pete you are so correct, the glue never works the second time you go to use it...It is always dried up. I too get it from the dollar store.

In reference to your earlier posting here, I urge you to walk... no run...to your local thrift and pick up that yellow Eureka that looks like this one. You will be more than happy with it, and then we will also have two matching vacuums, the brown Hoover and the yellow Eureka!

I'm sorry I didn't go up there today, possibly tomorrow, like I say, the ones I had were great. I just got so strangely satisfied finding my Electrolux AE that nothing else really mattered.

Nice vac Debbie, and still very serviceable and parts are still available for these. Check with a local vac shop in your area, they may have a used hose for yours, and if not, let me know, I have a good source here for things like that. The rug tool is not original, there should be a short curved wand that fits on the bottom of the two straight wands and then locks into a rug or floor nozzle. If you want, I can check around for these as well. I love those vacs!

I have to say, that after having read my Hoover Celebrity thread I found a description of the Eureka in the first post. It is caramel colored. I think it's the same model though.

Nice find but the parts are generic replacements. The originals would have been like the ones shown in the brocure I'm posting below. I believe the short hose is actually from an Iona (Regina) hand vac. They looked very much like a cut down electric broom
