One of my favourite things is finding a great cleaner sitting on the street, by a dustbin or sticking out of a skip (that's British for dumpster!). So I'd thought I'd share two of my best finds. What has everyone else found?

Wow!
One of my best vacuums, my Air-Way 88 Mark II, came from a garbage dump. It was weird, because it had its original "Steel" tag on it. No attacments except for the hose. I refurbished the outside, and now it looks much better. It is probably my best vacuum! Only wish it had a power nozzle! |

I found a Royal upright in a trash pile-the bag, roller brush, and belt were missing-replaced these parts and it ran nicely-I sold it to someone who needed a vacuum-wasn't collecting at that time-and about the same time I found the Royal-I was riding home from work on the bus-saw a Kirby Classic sitting by a trash can for garbage pickup-along with its attachments-by the time I got to it-someone else must of had the same idea--was gone-but the trash can(unemptied) was still there waiting for its garbage pickup.Otherwise I haven't seen many vacs in the trash-except for one Hoover Futura canister-cleaned and replaced its filter-then was OK-figured it was thrown out because it wouldn't pickup.traded it in toward another vacuum.Lately I haven't found any vacuums in the trash.Keep my eyes open though. |

Vacuum By The Dumpster
I remember I was working at an Auto Parts store at the time, in Amarillo, TX, I lived in Amarillo at the time. I was driving home from work, and was only about 3 blocks away from home and I happened to see an Electrolux vacuum sitting by the dumpster in an alley. I turned the car around, drove up the alley and snatched up the vacuum cleaner! It was an Electrolux Silverado. It had the power nozzle, and hose, which looked like someone ran over the hose as part of it was smashed flat! Needless to say, I took the vacuum home. The latch on the lid was a little bent to where the lid wouldn't close so I straightened it, and the body of the vacuum was a little dented so I straightened those, then took the motor out of the vacuum and cleaned it, cleaned the power nozzle and put a different hose on it, and the vacuum works like a charm! That vacuum cleaner still is in service today, working like a charm! |

My best trash finds included an Electrolux AF in perfect working condition and an Electrolux L, needing some help, but nonetheless working.
