I've always been curious about this model, since we don't seem to have had them in Britain - the only one I've seen is pictured below: It looks like it has a maple leaf design on the bag - was it exclusive to Canada? Also, although it's motor looks identical to the 800, it has the pedal-release handle, and appears to have the Popular-Priced chassis like the 425/450/475/300.

What an odd machine!
I wondered if there was an 850 - it seemed to leave a gap in the model number sequence. Where on earth did you dig up that photo?

Hoover 800
Hi Jack. According to the hoover production dates as of 1947, there is no listing for the 850 or a 775. It begins with the 750, 1931-1933 and goes to the 800, 1933-1935. Then the 825, 1935-1936 to the 900, 1931 to 1933. This I believe is a US production listing. That photo was sent to me by the Hoover Historical Socitey which is a part of Walsh University in Canton, Ohio. My 800 is identical to the photo except mine has the 'snap handle' as apposed to the 'pedal release' handle. The bag does say 'empty after each cleaning'.

Jack...that is an 850 which was exclusive to Canada. My information from the Hoover Historical Center in North Canton, OH shows that it was produced starting in 1936. This was well after the 800 left production here in the US. Often, the US would get the new model, in this case the 150 and then the Hamilton plant would take over where we left off and there would be some changes like the handle release. This is much like the difference in our 150 and the UK 160 except in my opinion the UK version was superior to our 150 in that it eliminated the handle bail. There was no 775 produced. I hope this helps some.
