Wow, that is a beautiful vacuum, and it's just MINT to say the least. Is this GE from the late 60's? I had a 1954 GE "Reach Easy Vacuum" once, except it didn't have the original hose so I couldn't reach everything as with the original hose, but at least my days of drag-around tragedies were over!
While I am sure the motive is usually noble in doing so, I am pretty sure that many of us wish people would not post "ebay tip-offs" to the various forums.
Keep in mind that eBay can be very competitive -- many people do watch eBay for treasures and would rather find them on our own. Especially something like this one that may have "snuck in the back door." Most of us do keep our eyes on eBay and will find listings sooner or later. If we don't, well tough luck for us!
The exception to this, of course, would be telling us about machines that you yourself are selling. That's different -- nothing wrong with a little self-promotion if you choose to do so.
Thanks for trying to be helpful, but I am pretty sure most people will agree with me that the BEST way to be "helpful" is NOT to broadcast eBay listings on other sites!

This forum is intended to be a platform for open discussion which includes Ebay listings, Craig’s List listings and any other items that will generate thoughtful discussion. My experience with the Automatic Washer site is that such postings were welcome and a part of the camaraderie and community. I do agree that We should be able to post ebay listing as it does help some of our fellow collectors. I have certain programs set up on my computer that finds certain vacs on ebay, where other collectors couldn't find at all. As in speaking with them they never saw the listing until I emailed it to them. Alot of ebay sellers do list in the wrong cataorgies so some collectors don't see the listing at all. We are here to help one another out.
My policy at automaticwasher.org is to have as few rules as possible. The more rules and restrictions the more likely you are to fail. I just expect people to respect one another and to post their new threads in the appropriate forum, otherwise we have no hard rules and I think that is part of our success. As for eBay we have had a couple incidents that caused some bad feelings over the past six years, but not enough to suggest banning the announcements of auctions.

I completely agree that we should be able to post ebay listing here on our wonderful new site. Many of us are busy and often miss things that we are looking for but thanks to good friends bringing them to our attention we have a chance. Ebay is an auction, and like all auctions everyone has a chance to bid. I hope that we are all adult enough to realize that we many not always get the things we bid on, but that is life!! I clearly am in the minority on this point, so I'll withdraw my taking exception to it. And to show the sincerity of my goodwill gesture, I will start posting the many great things =I= come across that people do not seem to be discovering.
I do spend a lot of time on eBay [I admit: more time than I should], and I do see many neat vacuum cleaners come and go that no one bids on -- or that only get one or two bids -- because the machine was miscategorized, or the brand was spelled wrong, or the word "Vacuum" was misspelled. I generally do not bid on these myself since I am not looking to add anything else to my collection. I just enjoy trolling the listings to see what comes up. Better, I figure, to waste time doing this than looking at filth on YouTube!!
Speaking of the word "vacuum," THAT's a thread in and of itself, of how many ways eBay sellers misspell the word. Somewhere I have a list I started compiling of the many variations I found, and it was incredible. This gives a very disturbing insight into the level of illiteracy that this country has plunged to -- that the average person seems incapable of spelling such a simple little word.
Anyway, since this seems to be something people would like to see here, I'll be happy to start doing it, as my own special public service!
I just have to say that if it were not for you and E-bay, I would not have found this club and wonderful group of people that I now call my friends. In my president's message I am very sincere about the fact that if it had not been for you directing me here through an E-bay purchase I would have never known about this club.
Discussions here or on Auto-Matic washer seem to bring us closer together and help those who are trying to build their collections. It also helps new collectors know what to look for (as in your last post). Sometimes the simple spelling of word can add to your search. Hopefully it may keep a perfectly good vacuum from grave yard. We all have different tastes and different levels of collecting not to mention we all have our own budgets, so if I don't win something today, I know tomorrow or the next day there could be something much more to my liking. But along the way, perhaps I may meet someone like yourself who will become a friend that just happens to like vacuums.
im not too much into canisters, but i saw this one and was sure someone would LOVE it. and with the reasonable *buy it now*, i KNEW it wasnt going to go the duration. and who could argue with the folks here getting first crack at it? maybe the buyer (who i suspect saw my posting) will tell us about how it turns out once s/he gets it?
Morgan's comments made me happy of course. I have actually brought a good number of collectors into the fold, some of whom are still with us and some of whom have moved on in one way or another.
I appreciate the ebay listings too. I sometimes miss things and I like to see items maybe even that I would not search for on my own. I like to window shop! This forum is a great place to find that cleaner for your collection not to mention all of the great expert advice you find here!
