Words cannot express my admiration for this man and his collection! A true role-model to me, although I doubt I'd ever get as close to having machines as varied and immaculate as his here in the UK :(

I just found this site after googling his name - go down to the bit which says 'Stan Kann and his Vacuum Cleaner Collection' there's an amazing 10 minute video about it. Maybe this is well-known among other collectors, but I only just found it, and I just had to share! Just wish I could download it to my computer in case the site ever closes down!

Does anyone have any other pictures or videos of his machines? And if anyone here knows him personally, say 'hi' to him for me!

Ah yes - I'm very familiar with this interview, I've read it many, many times! Must have taken you ages to transcribe it all!

Wow, what an amazing video and interview...my parents remember watching him on the Carson show. Makes me wish I hadn't missed the St. Louis Convention...hopefully Stan will be able to come to Omaha; would definitely like to meet him someday!

visiting Stan

I visit Stan about every other week, on Sundays. That's his day 'off' from playing the organ at the Fox Theater. I've had ample opportunity to study his entire vacuum collection, as I helped him polish all the machines and arrange them in preparation for the convention this past June in St. Louis. Stan is a wonderful person. As far as his collection, he uses the machines he has. He calls them the 'vacuum of the week'. Currently, he is using the Air-Way Sanitary System Twin Motor (Super Chief) model 40 to clean upstairs, and the model 425 Hoover Silver Jubilee to clean the orientals on the first floor. Stan has canisters (tank types) but doesn't really care for them all that much, just using them for dusting. He likes the Filter Queen model 33 best, because it's so quiet. He likes the model XXX but doesn't like the filtration (too much dust in the exhaust). Currently, he is using the Constellation 82 for dusting, but I'm going to take the brand new Constellation that Hoover just launched to his home this Sunday and we'll try it out.

I'll give Stan everyone's regards when I see him. If anyone ever gets to St. Louis on the weekends, Stan is very accomodating for collectors who wish to see his collection. The weeks are very busy, but Sundays seem to be a day he can take to devote to sweepers.

Edward R. Murrow interview with Mr Kann

It is my understanding that it was Edward R. Murrow's interview of Stan Kann in Vienna in 1938 that actually launched Mr. Murrow's career even though Stan kept referring to Mr. Murrow as Egbert, his given name. (I think I got that right).
