Here are some pictures of a Holiday party we hosted last evening with some friends from Galena, IL. They all arrived around 6 pm and we all had a great time. The menu was a tossed salad, Half and Half Roast (a local favorite here, it is a beef roast and pork roast tied together, with spices and butter added), mashed potatoes, gravy, green bean caserole, and for dessert homemade apple pie and pumpkin pecan pie.

Gail and Lois. Gail has just recovered from a broken arm and some hip and back problems as a result of the fall. Gail is the one in the red sweater. Lois also has just recovered from total knee replacement surgery early in the spring of 2007.

Fun pics of putting on the dog. Who knew, another cat named Solomon. That was the name of the cat we had growing up, he was a black long hair. But your Solomon is almost a clone of Larry and mines old ginger and white cat Spot who's long gone now.

Fred,

Not sure what the pattern is called.. I took some close up shots.. perhaps you can tell from them. The dinner ware is a pattern called Florentine by Sango Japan. This was a gift from a friend. She did not want her two daughters fighting over the Silver and the dishes, she called me and asked if I would like them and use them..I was honored and the rest is history. They don't get used as much as I would like, but they are proudly displayed in the China Hutch.

Yeah Morgan!

That silver pattern is Coronation. It was manufactured in honor of King Edward's coronation starting in 1939. Got mine from my mother-in-law. Long story there.

Putting on the spread!

Morgan,

Thanks for sharing these wonderful photos of your holiday dinner and lovely home. You and Mark are the ultimate hosts. It looks like a good time was had by all. And, it's great to see more of your beautiful home; however, why no photos of you?? We need to get Mark to take some and post them on the forum. (If I could get him to answer the phone, I'd call and ask him myself... I'm sure you'll show him this post...) [ducks and runs :) ]

I love those highball glasses. It reminds me of my grandmother. (I mean that in the nicest way possible...lol). She had the same glasses and china pattern. It really brings back some wonderful memories of holidays on their farm near Spencer, Iowa.

Coronation

I did a bit of checking on that silver pattern. It was manufactured starting in 1936 by the predecessor of Onieda Silver - Community. Coronation is truely a piece of history, Community created the Coronation line in 1936 in order to honor a Coronation that in the end never happened...Edward VIII ended up abdicating throne in order to marry American Wallis Simpson before his Coronation happened. Interesting history and a neat pattern too. Nice to see someone else who likes to set a beautiful table.
