Merry Christmas to all. I know that I have seen some posts on here about people who play the organ. I don't, but really enjoy listening to wonderfully powerful organ music. Last night we went to church in Morristown, NJ at my church, The Presbiterian Church of Morristown. They have the most awesome pipe organ and an organist that knows how to play it. Last night he really blew it out, or whatever the correct term is!

The music was so powerful that it seemed to shake your interal organs, like when you are at a club and they have the music really loud. I really don't know anything other than its really awesome. Here is a little bit I found on their website about it.

"In 1960, an Austin Organ was installed in the sanctuary of the Church on the Green and, in 1995, the organ was substantially enhanced. The organ now houses 3,370 pipes and 76 ranks."

And a picture...which doesn't even begin to do it justice.

Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and that Santa treated everyone well. Oh yeah, finally got some pics of our tree all decorated, will get those on soon too.

Andy

wow, looks awesome

I play some, and I used to belong to a church with a IV/65 pipe organ.
This one looks nice, and its an Austin Organ, I'll bet it sounds spectacular!

Super!nothing moves you like a LIVE pipe organ listening session!the pipe organ has got to be the most difficult instrument to record because of its wide ranges-can't close mic it,and the pedal notes are difficult for most mics to record accurately. And much less speakers to reproduce it in its true glory.

Thx for sharing this! Beautiful casework for the organ - it looks very much like a half-scale* version of the Mormon Tabernacle organ. See link-

* The tallest facade pipes in the Mormon Tabernacle organ are 32 ft. tall; in this Austin organ the tallest facade pipes are 16 ft.

Philladelphia's Grand Court organ.

Surely you Phili Pholks hightail it downtown to Wanamaker's Department Store this time of year for the daily noontime concerts? Right?

Two years ago I was able to spend a full week at the store with Curt Mangel, the organ curator, crawling over every square inch of that monster creatioon. Pure Organic Bliss. :-)

Dave, in a similar bliss over the Steinway, now in Fergus Falls, MN overnight on the way to Minneapolis...

And in New Jersey we have the ...

Atlantic City Convention Hall organ.

I've also toured this one.

Curt Mangel is also curator of this 0rgan and the Longwood Gardens instrument.

oops, my mistake.

Curt gave up the Convention Hall duties as Longwood and Wannamaker's are more than a full time responsibility.

BTW, if you go to Wannamaker's (Now Macy's) 3rd floor Ladies Department, where the Console lives on a raised balustraded platform overlooking the Grand Court, the thin short bearish squirrel that sorta looks like me sitting in a chair listening intently to the performing organist is Curt Mangel, and he welcomes visitors into the Gallery when it's convenient. Just get his attention and say hi.

While some insist the best place to hear the organ is the main floor behind the Eagle, I prefer the third floor North railing opposite the organ Facade - it's less crowded up there. You definitely want to be at the north end to feel those 64 foot tones roll by. Subsonic bliss.
