I mentioned in the vintage vacuum Hoover thread, about the company archives. Here is a thing I found about someone proposing to bring back the Packard. Unfortunately, it seems to be dated 2003, unless there are updates. Car afficianados in this site take note. They want a coupe, a sedan and a convertible. I think the prototype is stunning.

Thanks !

For sharing the info on the Packards. Love any kind of car.
My grandson is on the road to classic cars too. At 9 years, he got 3 classic car books for Christmas and is helping his other grand-pa rebuilt a mustang(65) and a 1966 Galaxie (Ford). I was an Olds/Buick kind of guy! Still drving a '99 Buick Century! LOve it!

My Dad had a Packard sedan when we were little-took many trips in that car-you know"Are we there yet"? long ones.We were amused by dropping marbles down the large plastic rear AC vents and watching them blow out-one time a marble rattled around and got Dad really mad at us.He had to take the AC system apart to get the marble out.Figured it fell into the system fan.The Packard was a really neat car though-did well to last thru us kids.Don't know what year the car was-It was Black and White body and a light colored cloth interior.

Tried the link-an impressive an really neat car-but the 12Cylinder motor would get the eco guys after you.Bet you have to pay the fed "gas guzzler " tax on this one.The company is for sale-any Applianceville member takers?Maybe they should offer some models with smaller bodies and motors-then would have a broader appeal.

With all of the people in this country that have more money than they'll ever need in two lifetimes, you'd think there would be some takers for buying that company. A lot of them collect cars, and none of them have a good excuse for not buying the company. I was looking for the original Packard Company when I fell into this site. I would love a '56 Patrician with push-button Ultramatic. I own a '66 Chrysler Newport 4dr sedan that is down the street at a mechanic's house. I love the Buick Centurys, especially the last few that were offered.

Yeah, it's a cool looking car, but I think it has it's flaws. If you look at the specs it has only 460hp and 510lb/ft of torque from a huge 525ci engine. It seems a bit low for it's size. Secondly, it lacks traction or stability control. Lastly, the transmission has only 4 speeds, which is a design that seems to be on the way out with many automakers making use of 5 and 6 speed designs.

Now I know that it's only a prototype and most of those things would be upgraded in a final release, but for a ultra high end luxury car it seems a little primitive.

I'd personaly prefer a Jaguar S-Type (much more affordable) to one of these but I'll be keeping my 92 Buick LeSabre for the next few years.
