That's Dr. Samuel Hoffman, who did all the great Hollywood soundtracks in the 40s and 50s -- Spellbound, The Lost Weekend, The Day the Earth Stood Still, etc.

His son Gary is a friend of mine, and I have played his theremin. It now belongs to a thereminist in Montreal.

This TV appearance, on Art Baker's schlocky "You Asked For It" program, is not his best performance.

"You Were Meant For Me" was that piece on the program, even I thought it left a lot to be desired, since it was popular music. One of the accompanying YouTube videos has a lady thereminist playing "Clare de Lune", which is one of my favorite classical pieces. I'm going to try that out later. I thought you'd know who Samuel Hoffman was, and I will read the article all the way through.
