Anyone see this article? If they no longer make incandescent bulbs, what will we do about night light bulbs and more importantly bulbs for our sewing machines and vintage cleaners?

The walmart here has LED bulbs for night lights. My Dad bought a couple and they work ok. We even put one in the light of my Mom's Neptune washer. Now it has an almost blue glow OOOOOHHHHH.

I would imagine there are still going to be specialty bulbs allowed where CFL's don't work too well, like in the cold or in extreme heat, spotlights etc. Our house is now 98% fluoresent tubes and CFL's. Only the range hood, oven light, dryer light, microwave light and one outdoor spot light are not and they're all lights that are only on intermittently anyways. The new CFL's are great. A 1000 times better than the ones they sold just a year or so ago.

If they outlawed incandescent bulbs, will 12 amp vacuums be next? I'm sure all together they use zillions of pounds of coal per second.

I doubt that 12A vacuums will be banned-vacuums aren't run as long as lighting equipment.Although I guess us vacuum collectors run theirs a lot longer than the average person would.I am betting LED replacements will come available for such things as vacuum cleaners and sewing machines.Keep a look out-maybe those LED bulbs from Wal-Mart may fit them.Good excuse for me to go to Wally world! If these LED bulbs work in vacuums and sewing machines-no more burnt out vacuum and sewing machine bulbs! |

I have standard bulbs is two of my bedrooms, the bathroom, laundry, front porches, and back porch. It annoys me that you can't use the little screw in spirals in a closed fixture, that's why they're not in the porch lights, which seldom get used anyway. I have spirals in my dining area ceiling light, that has the glass cover and open surrounding. All of a sudden it's completely dead, I'm pretty sure the lamps didn't both blow out together, I have had ceiling fixtures in this house stop working, then all of a sudden start again with no problems. I hope in this case, it's a fuse. |

Light Bulbs
I plan on changing all my bulbs to CFL's once I move to save on electricity costs. I do have a couple of three way bulbs in the living room, and I do not know if CFL's are capable of that or not, I may have to stock up on the old incandescents for the living room lamps.

I Plan On Stocking Up On Bulbs.
I too recently heard that the incandescent bulb is going the way of dinosaur by 2009. While i understand the reasoning behind replacing them with better energy conscious bulbs. My main abjection is the kind of light that these bulbs give off. The light is very unnatural looking. Either there too bright and glaring. Or there is a weird greenish cast to the light. Florescent lights are bad enough at work. But i don't want that in my house. I also have the antique and vintage table & floor lamps. Some of them take mogul bases. I'm sure there not going to make bulbs to fit these lamps. So i plan i stocking up! Every time i go to the grocery or hardware store i will buy bulbs.

Mogul base CFL bulbs are made-Grainger and other commercial-industrial suppliers have mogul base ones-they are intended to replace mogul base incandescents-they are some in use here at where I work in the old mogul base bulb incandescent fixtures.they have been running about a year now-and OK.they put ot the very blue 4500degree kelvin light.About like a cool-white flourescent. The mogul base bulbs may not fit your floor light fixtures becuase the CFL are large.the color would not be becoming of those older fixtures-but the CFL's are available in the mogul base size-bet more will show up. |

Oh yes-very silly me-at most elecrical and hardware,Lowes, and Home Depot you can get mogul to medium base bulb base adaptors. These should allow you to use any medium base bulb in your older mogul based fixture. |
