since jeff and i will be sharing space in the near future, i wanted him to feel at home.... so he picked out colors for what will be the "work room" for the vacuums. The is in the basement with the washers and dryers. he picked the colors of the hoover 1020 and the 1070.....I took the hoods in and had them match them and proceded to paint the walls. not everything is in place yet so it looks a little cluttered right now.

another view of the same side.

Post# 27058-12/14/2007-01:07 ||| badata (Joliet, IL)

i love this picture.....reminds me of willy wonka and the chocolate factory.....i'm always waiting for someone to come sliding out of the door.

Post# 27059-12/14/2007-01:09 ||| badata (Joliet, IL)

this is the wall where all the washers and dryers will go as soon as that DAMN freezer is gone!!!!! I'm working on getting rid of it.......taking it apart and going to try to get it to the side of the road with just me and jeff.

Post# 27060-12/14/2007-01:10 ||| badata (Joliet, IL)

just another view.......the work bench needs painting yet and we are going to cover the top of it with carpeting.

Post# 27063-12/14/2007-01:15 ||| badata (Joliet, IL)

new floor

since the painting was almost done and i was SICK TO DEATH of that concrete floor, we decided tonight to go to the tile place and pick out some tile. this is what we decided on.

Post# 27064-12/14/2007-01:15 ||| badata (Joliet, IL)

before shot of the floor before the tile started to be installed

Post# 27065-12/14/2007-01:16 ||| badata (Joliet, IL)

one more before pic.........you always have to take before pics.

Post# 27066-12/14/2007-01:17 ||| badata (Joliet, IL)

do you REALLY think that one should be drinking BEFORE laying tile????? what about the straight lines??????

Post# 27067-12/14/2007-01:18 ||| badata (Joliet, IL)

me laying the tile......notice my rigged up e-lux with the dual 50 attachments!!!! LOL it got the job done!

Post# 27068-12/14/2007-01:19 ||| badata (Joliet, IL)

another pic

Post# 27071-12/14/2007-01:24 ||| badata (Joliet, IL)

we both think that this is going to completely change the room by adding this floor.....it will brighten everything up. we aren't done yet. there is another room at the back of the laundry room but it is hard to see because the door is painted the same color as the wall. there are 5 more boxes of tile coming and we need to finish the wall where the washer and dryers are and behind the workbench. but i'm hoping to have enough to do that back room but tomorrow is another day.......the back room will be for extra storage for jeff's vacuum stuff.

Post# 27072-12/14/2007-05:23 ||| arh1953 (south florida)

The lime and turquoise paintwork is festive, and the floor tile is really pretty. That's going to be a nice work/hobby area.

Post# 27083-12/14/2007-09:43 ||| hoover1060 (Roselle, IL USA)

Michael and Jeff: Tile installers

I was amazed at how the colors on the walls made the appliances POP out. They look awesome! Once households are combined, the 1992 Shredmore set is going, and my Maytag A608/DG608 set will take their place. Once the freezer is gone we can reunite the A806/DE806 Maytags that came from Tarantula arms. With that we'll have room for maybe two more washers and a dryer. I am thinking something in Frigidaire and maybe a belt drive Kenmore or Whirlpool.
I had a blast putting the tile down too, and even with two glasses of wine in me I still got the lines even!

Post# 27085-12/14/2007-09:47 ||| vac-o-matic (Saint Louis, Mo.)

Looking good guys, that's going to be a great showplace for your machines. What's a Shredmore Jeff?

Post# 27086-12/14/2007-09:49 ||| rexaircollector (Loganville, GA)

GREAT JOB

Guys, the colors are festive and the tile is an excellent choice. Half the fun is doing the work yourselves and when it is done, what a sense of accomplishment. I must come and see it in person.

All my love,
Ms Carlotta

Post# 27089-12/14/2007-10:00 ||| luxg (Ruskin,Florida)

Michael and Jeff, Love the color choices and that floor is fantastic. I think you were so wise to put down tile, with paint it looks great when first done but it doesn't stay looking great very long. Michael I didn't know you had the Aqua G Electrolux!! What wonderful machines. Fantastic Job Guys!!

Post# 27092-12/14/2007-10:54 ||| arh1953 (south florida)

Jeff, two glasses of wine is not even a buzz! Everything is falling into place nicely, and so '60s looking with the color combo. That was the intent, wasn't it?

Post# 27097-12/14/2007-12:41 ||| badata (Joliet, IL)

i don't know what jeff has in mind for more washers but i wouldn't mind a 1-18 or any 1140 rpm machine.

a shredmore is a kenmore, i'm not sure why but jeff don't care for my current machines.

come on over Ms. Carlotta......there is always room at the inn.

i said the same thing about painting the floor Terry. I think we are going to finish it today. i can't wait to see the finished product. I got the lux G from Tom A. I also have an L that Fred S. gave me. they do a pretty good job (although you know I LOVE my kirby's...LOL)

arh1953.....2 glasses of wine is plenty enough to get jeff drunk. he doesn't drink that much and gets drunk pretty easily. he's so funny too.

Mike and Jeff,

Great JOB!!!

Your are both much braver than I.... I could handle the painting, the floor however...not that brave!!

Nice Job - Love Nice Basement Space

Jeff and Michael,

Great Job!! Can't wait to visit and see the space in person. The wall colors are great - reminds me of my guest room at Jeff's (notice I've taken ownership of the guest room - my home away from home). The bright tile gives it such a clean, light and airy feel - great move!! You both will love having a nice area to work on machines.

I currently have a great workroom with an island workbench that I absolutely love. There is also has a 4 tube flourescent fixture overhead - lighing is very important. You might want to consider adding a nice section of pegboard - very handy for organizing tools and supplies.

I can also see your room becoming a laundry haven - lined with a great assortment of vintage, fun machines. Pretty soon you'll have the same dilemma as so many AW members, having to pick which machines to use. It'll make you realize how boring life is for common folks that have only one set of machines!!

Enjoy!! We'll talk soon. Life has been overly crazy on my end, will share.

Take Care!!

Pat

Wonderful job, Jeff and Michael. There is a Frigidaire 1-18 set still here with your name on it! ............

Post# 27104-12/14/2007-14:58 ||| badata (Joliet, IL)

Work in progress

Well Jeff was up and at the gym by 10am, and when he got back we set to work and used up the rest of the tile we had. There are 5 more boxes on order, so all the places that need trimming will get filled in then.
The room is absolutely transformed from a dungeon-like dreary space to a cheery looking laundramat looking place.
Morgan, not a harsh word passed between Jeff and myself doing this. We gabbed all the way through putting the tile down, and Jeff made the comment that this was way easier than painting. Of course, HE's not the one who has to measure and cut all the remaining tiles either...
We also got rid of the freezer...sort of...
Here is a preview:

Post# 27105-12/14/2007-14:59 ||| badata (Joliet, IL)

from the other end of the room

Pat that tan square above the workbench is a pegboard for tools. You can see it in one of the previous pictures.

Post# 27106-12/14/2007-15:02 ||| badata (Joliet, IL)

sing with me now

"Reunited and it feels so good...."

The Maytag A806 and DE806 together again. Now we just need a 220V outlet to get the dryer going!

Post# 27107-12/14/2007-15:03 ||| badata (Joliet, IL)

Maytag DG608

Jeff has the matching A608 washer at his house. Soon it will be here to stand next to its mate

Post# 27108-12/14/2007-15:06 ||| badata (Joliet, IL)

And finally the SHREDMORES

1992 Kenmore 80 Series set. These were here when I bought the house and work just fine. These machines will do the Bob-loads that the Maytag will not.
I don't know why Jeff does not like these machines, but he keeps saying they are going(this is still up for discussion)

Post# 27109-12/14/2007-15:08 ||| badata (Joliet, IL)

He loves our 'Tags..

Jeff beams proudly at the transformation. I can also tell he's very attached to the 806's!

Beautiful!!! Great job boys!

Post# 27112-12/14/2007-15:57 ||| petek (Sarnia)

Looks great but you're making it look too easy LOL Maybe that's why I put things off figuring something gonna go awry getting me all stressed.

Post# 27114-12/14/2007-16:00 ||| compactelectra (Chicago)

Fabulous Boys!

It is so nice to see the 806s back together again. Glad you are enjoying them, brings back some good memories. Now, don't you want a complete set of Frigidaire turquoise appliances to go with all of that fabulous redecorating? I know where you can get them -- cheap.

Bravo Gentlemen...

on a job well done. The floor looks fabulous with those new tiles. It makes a huge difference and really brightens up the basement. I'm so impressed.

Michael, I enjoyed our chat the other night. We'll have to talk again soon. I want to hear all about your home improvement exploits. There must be a good story or two to share.

Mike

Post# 27118-12/14/2007-17:01 ||| hamiltonbeachbo (Southeastern Wisconsin)

WOW,

You guys did a fantastic job. Fun to see the progress!!
The tile made such a huge difference.
"Boys, I'm very proud of you" (say this with a deep authoritarian tone - kinda like a dad)
Really, it looks fabulous (god, I love that word!!)
I love to see matching machines side-by-side. It's how they are suppose to be - partners in fighting dirt and grime.
Now, what's next??? Wallpapering - the true test of a relationship! Please say no. I'm not a real fan of wallpaper

Enjoy

Pat

Holy Hooverhue Washateria...Batman...

Jeff and Michael,

Stunning, simply stunning. It really is awesome to enjoy something that you do together, especially when there is a little "sneaky peek" to keep the party going!!!LOL.

Your machines, sans the newer model Kenny's are something to behold also. Like vacuums, like washers. Perfectly restored, and glistening for your enjoyment.

I was wondering if anymore was heard on the 1965 Lady Kenmore's. However, I remember there being a discussion at Jimmy's about wanting the 1-18 Frigidaire's. Now you have the ideal place for them to reside. Either pair...

Super job....

Chad

Post# 27120-12/14/2007-19:01 ||| hoover1060 (Roselle, IL USA)

Thank you all

Ida dear, those turquoise appliances will have a home yet, fear not!

Pat and Chad, I am not very home improvement inclined, and when Michael told me last night we were going to Century Tile a shiver ran down my back. However I could not have been more wrong. I left the measuring to Michael and just did what I was told. We had the majority of the floor done in no time at all!

Jimmy, hang on to those 1-18's, we would love to have those! Michael loves to watch that jet action agitator!

Post# 27133-12/14/2007-22:42 ||| luxg (Ruskin,Florida)

Michael and Jeff, Just wonderful!! I can't wait to see it in person. It is hard to believe that it's the same space as before. I can see it now, the Michael and Jeff show on HGTV!! YAY

Post# 27137-12/14/2007-23:14 ||| vac-o-matic (Saint Louis, Mo.)

Shredmores

I think I have the same Kenmore set, I haven't even had a service call on mine and still going strong! I think mine are close to 17 yrs. old, I wonder how many of today's machines will be making the same claim 17 yrs. from now.

Post# 27141-12/15/2007-01:37 ||| electrogirl (Allentown, PA)

Michael and Jeff,

Congrats on combining households. I am so impressed with your tile work, it looks fabulous and really makes a difference in the basement. Basements can be so drab. I love all the washers and dryers too! The paint job is awesome and like someone mentioned earlier it makes those machines really, "pop."

Thanks for sharing the before, during and after pictures with us. Don't get rid of your Kenmore machines. I bet they are great. The house I am moving into has the same Kenmore dryer and a similar Whirlpool washer. I like the dryer a lot because the inside lights up (it doesn't take much to make me happy

Post# 27145-12/15/2007-02:58 ||| hygiene903 (Galion, OH)

Michael and Jeff,

Congratulations on an excellent job well done!! Nothing beats the sense of accomplishment that you get when you step back and look at the finished product knowing that you did it yourself.
It looks great!!
Jeff

Tile on the floor...

I must admit that was one of the easiest projects I've ever done.
I left all the measuring and stuff to Michael, he's the brains in this outfit!
Now I want to tile something in my house...

Post# 27206-12/15/2007-17:18 ||| myhooverco (North Canton, OH)

Jeff and Michael...

Great job...you turned the space into a place that is even more enjoyable to be in. I have to admit that I really love the colors you used! The tile will be easy to care for too. I know....you can use a Hoover Floor Mate on it!!! Great photos too.

Very nice work, boys! That space is completely different than when I was there in June - except for the Kenmo's and that ghastly X-TRA detergent ;-)

The floor does make a huge difference in brightening up that room - I would love to do that in my basement but it's much more complicated with painted floors...

Post# 27248-12/16/2007-00:24 ||| hoover1060 (Roselle, IL USA)

thank you tom!!!! (this is michael btw)

greg.......still having the "extra" detergent means only one thing..............I DON'T HARDLY USE IT!!!!! LOL The floors in there were painted but you can go over painted floors....not a problem!!! do it do it do it

does anyone else here want greg to do it??? YAY!!!!!!
