I have been meaning to start this thread for some time; now seems as good a time as any.

Here are photos of the toy sweepers in my collection -- would love to see other people's!

btw, in photos with an object that seems unrelated - e.g., a battery, the object is there for size reference.

First, a Dirt Devil hand vac.

Note the "politically correct" bi-gender depiction -- "just like Mom and DAD's" -- and a girl AND a boy using it. Right.......! How many boys would really want one of these How many dads really do the vacuuming?!

European Electrolux - this was a gift from my buddy Kyle Mathews.

Eureka. I don't remember now where I got this. I =think= one of my "civilian" friends gave it to me as a gag birthday gift one year.

Meile. Bought this at Boulevard Vacuum in L.A., a Meile dealer.

And, last but not least, my mid-50s Marx "Pretty Maid" sweepers. The dark blue one is the same color as the one I got for Christmas in 1959.

Now ... let's see YOUR toys! :)

Post# 26965-12/13/2007-17:35 ||| charles~richard (Los Angeles, California)

Oops, almost forgot one! This is a little wind-up toy that I found at the 99¢ store, of all places! It stands about 7" tall. When you wind up the crank on the right, the wheels turn and the little white "dirt balls" inside bounce around like popcorn. When you put it on the floor, it will merrily trot along by itself.

Sorry the photo is so crummy but I had a heck of a time getting good photo - it's bright pink and reflected a lot of flash.

Those are all really super! I have a little Dirt Devil hand vac locked up right now, the Meile dealer had a toy, don't know if they still do, and I want a toy Electrolux. Do they make an American model? The European one is really sharp looking.

Super stuff there. Pretty Maids all in a row and that Eureka, I love that one. I have the Red Dirt Devil, no box, but that's about it for toy ones. Have the Miele toy washer though.

Toy Vacs

I give the Dirt D upright to my grandson about 6/7 years ago. It's long gone. My kids played with the blue Eureka ones
back in the late 70's I had a bunch put away. Then gave them
away when I opened my vac shop in l983 to the first 5 purchases of a new vac.
I'm looking this year for my Grandaughter. Any ideas of what's out there and where to find them. I'm looking for
Christmas.

Toy Vacs

Check out the "Like Grandpa, Like Grandson" thread for a picture of me with my toy Hoover 63, at Christmas, 1958, when I was about 2 1/2 yrs. old. Wish I still had it, but it's long gone.
We do have a toy Dirt Devil upright that our Grandson likes to push around the house. However, he prefers the real thing whenever one of them is out.

OMG!!!!

A Toy Z330!!!

I actually had one of those- I cant have been more than 3-4 at the time.

I dont suppose you have the hose or anything?- from memory it was the same coluur as the foot pedals.

The Z330 is actually a pretty rare model- it was produced from 73-75 when it was replaced by the brown Z345 that ran till 82. Im lucky enough to own an original boxed example that was saved from the binmen one night :)

Hi Seamus,

No, all I have is just the machine. I didn't realize it's such a rare thing.

1334

Hi guys,

I do not have a picture of it yet, but I have a near mint boxed WELLS model of the Hoover 1334 Junior, the original Rose white and Pink.

It seems to have been purchased and if played with, it would only be a couple of times, and then replaced in it's box and put away. The cost? £10 from ebay about a year ago. I consider myself extremely lucky as the previous one I was watching about 6 months prior to this made £110.

I think Jack (vintage hoover) may have one aswell.

Pics will follow once I get my camera replaced. The old one is sickly and possibley dying!

Oh well, Happy hoovering folks.

Catch ya again soon.

Clark.

That toy Electrolux is excellent, I've never seen that before! I love miniatures of vacuums, appliances, etc. and have collected a few myself. I'm sure you have more than a few of the Hoover minis and Lux coin banks...

Post# 27222-12/15/2007-19:37 ||| charles~richard (Los Angeles, California)

I have lots of Lux coin banks and a couple of Hoover "hand-outs" (tape measures etc.) but no Hoover miniature machines.

Post# 27224-12/15/2007-19:43 ||| vintagehoover (Surrey, England)

Clark -

Unfortunatly, I don't have such a toy Junior - the only toy I've ever had was the blue 6525C - the handle bail of which unfortunately got broken in storage - which I gave to you! Maybe you're thinking of someone else?

I did have a maroon-coloured Hoover Turbopower toy when I was little, though, and my cousin gave me the Lux 550 toy she had when she was young. Sadly I don't have either of these any more. The Turbopower's handle snapped off, and my mum threw it away without telling me, because she thought I might hurt myself on the broken part. I don't know what happened to the Lux toy!

Toy Vacs

I googled toy vacs last night looking to see what was available currently and how much. Toys R Us have several
a dyson, dirt devil and a Hoover wind tunnel. prices
anywhere from 12-39 dollars on line plus shipping and tax.
Got the Hoover Windtunnel like Moms. I'm sure she'll like
it!!

Jack,

Hiya Mate,

Sorry about that, I could have sworn it was you who won it, but then having passed 30 years old, I am sure that senility is setting in already! :D:D

The 6525C is almost restored, and will be pictured along side the 1334 when finished.

I am looking for the Wells 1354A, as I had one of these when I was little, which I was once!

Heres to the thrill of the hunt!

Happy hoovering,

Clark.

A toy I had when I was a kid.

I have been looking for one of these machines lately but haven't found one. I had a toy vacuum from Sears. It was a canister, roughly square with a red base and white top. It had a blue corrugated hose that inserted into a round clear plastic cover over the dirt container. The scant suction came through a peg in the center of the container that was covered by a foam filter ring. It had three light blue on-board attachments: a crevice tool, a wand, and a rectangular nozzle. The on-off switch was on one of the rear corners. It took 4 D batteries, I think. I carried that around everywhere and wish I could find it.

You have a nice assortment of toy vacs as well Charles! I had a few of those toy Eureka vacuums back in the early '80's as a child! It was my all-time favorite toy. IIRC, they came in pink as well. I think I may still have one in my bedroom closet, missing the bag though.

I used to have the Dirt Devil Deluxe when I was 6-8 loved it but my mom got rid of it because somehow it broke. I will never forget that toy. when I was 2 1/2 my mom and dad had bought me a Fisher Price vacuum that actually lit up when pushed. I also missed that. then my mom bought me a dirtdevil lite plus that christmas however it did not last long I think I remember it catching on fire a year after we had it. but before that we had a eureka with the 4 amp motor I miss that machine it was great until it died.

Anyone remember Suzy Homemaker toy appliances?

This thread reminded me that one of my toy sweepers was a Suzy Homemaker vacuum cleaner. I think i had two of these between the ages of 4 and 9...i kept wearing them out. Both of mine were Turqoise...They really worked...revolving brush, red satin like bag with a clip on top to empty it, also attachments that plugged into the side like pre- convertible hoovers. I think they ran on six to eight "D" batteries.
Of course nothing was as fun as the real thing...Mom's Kirby 516!
I think i have a couple of pics of me opening and/or using the SH toy cleaner...I'll have to dig through the old photos.

Here's an eBay ad with pics of the vacuum and other toy appliances.

Toy Miele

I thought that yellow Miele was real at first but then I saw the battery sitting next to it and realized just how small it was. LOL. Very cool!

When I was in grade school, one of my classmates got the entire "Suzy Homemaker" set of toy appliances for Christmas, along with a playhouse that her dad built for her. When I was not over there watching her mama use her Model E Electrolux, I was playing with my friend's Susy Homemaker sweepers -- she got both the tank and the upright models!!

Post# 28151-12/30/2007-15:58 ||| electroluxxxx (Greene, NY)

what toy models did Electrolux have??? and did they pick up dirt as well???
