Christmas time has always been special. Growing up, I could not wait to see the Christmas lights! All those colors and shapes. As some of you here would sneak around to see other people's vacuums, I looked forward to seeing what others had for Christmas lights. I didn't have to sneak to do it. I just gravitated to the decorations every time we visited people at Christmas time. Anyways, here are some pics of my Christmas light collection. Of course this only scratches the surface and I don't want to bog the website down with too many pics. I might be posting too much as it is. Here goes.....

My boxes of Christmas lights. The boxes themselves were as festive as the lights and reflected the period from which they came.

C-6 Boxes...one goes out, they all go out....

I have those mini lava lamps that you have

Joe...thanks for the pics...you do have QUITE a collection of lights from all eras. I have seen you pick them out of a pile under a basket way in the back up under a shelf like nobody's business. You have an eye for them. They really used to make quality Christmas decorations not like the stuff you find at wal mart. Are you going to post some pics of them decorated and lit up? I like all of the original boxes.

I didn't know you collected them.. Last week I saw a box at the flea market I think they were called GE Dee-lites and if recollect the bulbs were ball shaped? Looked very very old. If you're interested in them and they're still around do you want me to grab them.. I think they were like $12 and I have no idea if they work.

Dee Lites.......

Hmmmmm, Pete, if they are still there, sure, grab them. GE made alot of fancy shaped C-7 lights just before the C-7 went out in favor of the mini lights. If you get them, private email me at the address in my profile and I'll square up with you. Thanks for offering.

That is very interesting!

I collect a lot of other things as well! For example, antique/vintage: telephones, cameras, fountain pens and pencils, typewriters, Civil Defense memorabilia, sort-of bowling balls (not really a collection), and that is about all I can think of. So far, I have gotten some great inks for my fountain pens, like Noodler's "bullet-proof" black, and an Art Brown (a great pen shop) exclusive: Manhattan Blue. It is a copy of Carter's 1931 dark blue ink. I can't wait to fill them when I get back to Alabama from New Jersey. I wouldn't want my fountain pen leaking on the plane. I got a Sheaffer's Touchdown filling pen. It has a Canadian nib on it.

Does anyone else collect these antiques? I would like to talk to some people about these collections, especially the fountain pens. That and vacuum cleaners are my two biggest collections.

Oh, yes! I also collect clocks and watches. I have a neat Jefferson Golden Hour Mystery Clock. It is dated 1955. For some reason, 1955 is the year of many of my dated antiques. It really is crazy. I have a lot of neat stories about my telephones, clocks, and many other collections. Just ask if you want to hear any in particular.

There was a person that used to work with me that collected christmas lights-he specialized in the sylvania "flourescent" christmas light strings.the older "Noma" light sets remined me of the ones we used when I was little. They were the series wired ones. They were replaced later on with C7 style strings-also we had the older "bubble lights"Loved those. The ones sold today just don't look the same.

LOVE IT!!

I love how some of the boxes have the word "outfit" on them.. my grandmother still uses that word when describing something other than a clothing ensemble!

Thanks for posting the pictures, Joe. What a nice collection of lights.Great to have the original boxes, too. I have some of those old sets myself, but I think the Sterling C-7 is the only one that I still have the box. Have about 3 Noma strings, one of them being the ones with the "berries" to connect them to the tree, but the boxes are long gone. Also have a Timco set, but believe that box is gone too. We also have some of the red cellophane wreaths, with and without lights, that were my wife's Grandmother's. Also have several boxes of the old Shiny Bright ornaments in the original boxes.
Love to use the old stuff on the tree--doesn't look right without it!!
Merry Christmas,
Jeff
