Hello all.
I joined last night. My name is James, I'm 18 years old, from England UK, and have loved vacuum cleaners for as long as I can remember!
I particuly like Kirby's, I've got a Tradition with ALL the tools, Legend II with tools, and a Heritage Turbo '84 with some Heritage tools, and some random tools from other models! I would like to get some older Kirbys, such as 500 models, but they are not very common in the UK.
I also have many Hoovers, my most recent being a 1346 I got yesterday from a friend! I've got loads of others too. I think 20+ cleaners in total, and still live with my parents, and brother and sister! I will update my profile and add pictures of my collection when I get round to it!

I saw your Kirby collection, and I love it! :) Where abouts in UK are you? Got any ideas where I get some older Kirbys, such as 500 models, Classics etc. I cant find any in UK, I've tried ebay. Don't really want to ship em over from USA cause I'm on a tight budget (student) and they are only 110V so wont work without a converter of some sort!
I learnt about this sight from www.137.com, which I found through google by looking for info and pics of Kirby 516 I think.

Hi james that was a quick reply!

I live half way between Derby and Nottingham.
Kirby has been in the UK since about 1973ish.
So you can find kirby classic omegas and classic III in the uk but they are hardier to find.
All my older kirby's are shipped from the USA.
So if you want the older kirby's you will probably have to ship them in but go for the cheaper economy shipping to save money.
Its pity I didn't know about you sooner as when we moved I through away 3 or 4 500 series kirby's that I had spare.
I do have a step down transformer to run them. Not that I clean the house with the US ones.
Where did you get your kirby's from and when did you 1st come across them?
I started collecting my kirby collection when I was at college and got my 1st kirby at about 13/14.

James:-)

Hello James, this is gonna be long:

I think I was about 10 when I got my first Kirby.
For my birthday my dad gave me all the tools for a Tradition (missing a few, but got em all now), including handi-bulter, and rug renovator. He got them from a women at work, she had through the Kirby out years ago cause it was too heavy. I put an add in the local for a Tradition, and a women phone up and I agreed to buy it for £20.
I think it was last year that I bought my Legend II from a car boot, with pretty much all the tool for £10. Its missing an extension tube, and didn't have the optional turbo sander/ massager/ scrubber thingy but has a zip brush
A few months ago the Hertiage came up on ebay, and was very close to home so I could colect it. I won that for £15 (no other bids) and got the original receipt for £300 with it. Its got the Heritage Rug Renovator (in wrong box), Heritage hose, Tradition dusting tools, zip brush aswell and a legend II manual! I bought a handi-butler for it from ebay, its not complete but came with a turbo groomer (hair cutters).
These are my favourite shape of kirbys and I would like all of the models like these. I don't really like the newer ones (G's).
Do you have all the tools for yours? You don't have to list like I did, you'll be here all night cause you have so many models!!
If you know of any older kirby for sale will you let me know please? I can get Heritage II and Legand easily, but all the others I need are quite hard to get as you said.
My local Kirby dealer did have a very old kirby, but I doubt he still has it, and I haven't seen him for years. It might be worth a visit.

I'll try to keep it short :-)

Well let me think......
Yes I have most of the tools for most of my kirby including manuals, boxes etc.
Still missing odd parts one or two handi-butlers etc.
As Iv said before to other people its annoying when I have to buy a whole kirby and ship it over for one or two parts.
But I keep on at it.Will take many years to come.

If you want to e-mail me you can and If you want I can send you some extra pics of my collection.
If you click on my profile you will get my e-mail address.

what do your parents think of you collecting vacuums?
Have you ever seen a kirby Demo?

If I was you I would go back to see your local kirby dealer.

James

Its taken me ages, I deleted my first reply by accident!

My parents don't mind my collection, and its not just vacuums! I think they have grown to live with it! I used to be limited to a certain number of machine whenI was a kid. If I wanted a new one I had to through one out!
I will ocassionally do the vacuuming for them, or shampoo the front room carpet!
Where do you keep your collection?
Mynes in the loft, and its not very nice up there, but its better than the shed.
I've never seen a demo. But I do have a sales porfolio for the Heritage II showing the Kirby being used with all the tools and explaning the benefits of the Kirby over other cleaners.
I also have a special em-tor with a glass window that came with all my Tradition tools. I'm sure you've seen one before.
I'll add you to my e-mail contacts and send you an email. If you could send me some pictures of your collection that would be great. I can't ever find decent ones on the net!
James :)
