Clay arrived today despite all the bad weather we got here in town and Andy Wieder is on his way. Tom G. and Clay arrived at my apartment this morning and we had a wonderful breakfast. We have been playing with vacuums all morning and are planning on going to John Pease's house tonight for dinner. I included a picture of Tom G's Electrolux 3500sr and my Epic 8000 in matching Oyster Fog. The Epic 3500 that I gave to Tom is the 75th Anniversary edition. More pictures will follow!

Clay at the mini meet

Here is a picture of Clay with my Hoover 115.

Absolutely beautiful luxes! I'm glad Clay made it safely. I knew he started out on Thursday which was probably a wise move.

Tell him to smile for the next picture! The 115 is great and the correct, original bag looks wonderful. I have a 115 with the later Hoover replacement bag. Fred S. had given me an original but it was just too far gone to get repaired or use. Hoover's use of the two brown's is lovely and that cleaner really does a great job.

Can't wait to see more!

Friday night dinner

We had a great dinner Friday evening at John Pease's house. He made chili, hot dogs, and several people brought appetizers and cookies. We have been trying out and playing with several different vacuums that different people brought. We will have lot's of pictures to post later!!

Hello

Very nice pics! One of my mother's friends gave me a Kirby Sentria with attachments/shampooer for Christmas last month...I love my new Kirby Sentria!

Hello

All Kirby "G" series models use the 4 row brushroll. Starting with the Ultimate G Diamond Edition, Kirby started using the 4 row brushroll with stiff brushes. The stiff brushes brushroll raised the deep cleaning score from very good to excellent in Consumer Reports. The above floor cleaning score is very good in CR. The filtration/emissions score is excellent in CR. The bristles on the Kirby 4 row brushroll with stiff brushes is the same stiffness as the Hoover WindTunnel/Dyson DC17 brushrolls. That means that the Hoover WindTunnel/Dyson DC17 cleans just as well as the Kirby Ultimate G Diamond Edition/Sentria.

But...

Which will last longer?? I think I hear a "KIRBY!!"

Post# 5075-12/2/2006-10:21 ||| luxboy (St. Louis)

wait a minute..

I thought this thread was regarding the St. Louis mini meet.. could we please leave debates on cleaning effectiveness out of this thread as there are other threads already existing on that topic.

By the way Rob, did I miss something? I thought Christmas was THIS month? Don't get ahead of yourself now.

Hello

The Kirby Sentria was a early Xmas present...Xmas presents have been known to be given as early as November.
I also have a Kirby Generation 3 with attachments/shampooer and also have a Ultimate G Diamond Edition with attachments/shampooer.
I really like all of my Kirbys. :)
You guys all have fun at the MiniMeet!

"could we please leave debates on cleaning effectiveness out of this thread as there are other threads already existing on that topic."

-I am sorry. I didn't mean for it to be a debate. I was just saying that I thought metal lasted longer than plastic. Sorry! :-)

Post# 5091-12/2/2006-18:09 ||| luxboy (St. Louis)

metal vs. plastic

Kyle:
I work on vacuums every day of my life. People bring in metal Electrolux vacuums for service, as well as the plastic machines. Ironic that the metal cleaners break down just as often as the plastic models. In some respects, the plastic cleaners are actually better. Ask anyone who ever had a metal part break on their Kirby (fans, handle forks, etc.).
While we can wax poetic about metal machines being better, almost any service man can tell you that they break down just as often as each other. I will give you the fact that the metal cleaners LOOK way more cool.

More Pictures

To Kyle, Austin, et al:
More PICTURES from our Mini Meet to come soon (within a few hours):
We are now enjoying the new Electrolux Lite (an Oreck copy that actually works very well), as well as the Sebo Felix, the Electrolux Legacy upright, the Princess (filter queen) upright, etc. Stay tuned boys.

I wish to thank John Pease and Rick Asquith for their stellar hospitality this past weekend. I was delighted to meet Andy Welter and to see again Patrick Dawson, Ruth Hollander and Keith. I was pleased to meet Dereck as well, although we didn't find a chance to have a conversation.

Metal vs. plastic:

Wow! I am utterly surprised! Although, my old, terrible Kirby Sanitronic something did have a hole in the fan housing. I think the demonstrator picked up a few too many rocks with that one! I threw it away. It was such a bad vacuum, I just didn't want to fool with anything. I did save the pretty good attachments, though. They looked a lot better than the vacuum! Most vacuums would look better than this one. :-)

Post# 5207-12/3/2006-20:04 ||| Convertible68 (Bellville, TX)

Derreck, another round of awesome pictures! Those charity model Dysons are very neat, as well as that Motorhead. Were you able to check out the DC20 as well?

I do like that GE upright...never seen pictures of it before. It does look very lightweight. What was the history behind that one?

It was great 'meeting' you & Tom on the phone last night; either of you can call anytime! Hopefully my name will be on the updated roster this month, when the final 2006 Club newsletter is out.

Post# 5217-12/3/2006-21:14 ||| Andy (Springfield, Missouri)

Thanks to everyone

John and Rick, thank you both for opening your homes to us and letting us run wild with all of your wonderful cleaners! Marty, it was a pleasure meeting you as well! Unfortunately Duane and Tania couldn't make it due to the ice storm we had in the Midwest. We were all graced with the presence of Ruth Hollander on Saturday night, and we got to hear some great stories about her Filter Queen and Compact business in St. Louis. It's always great to see Patrick Dawson...as the picture says, we truly are both Miele aficionados. Clay Floyd and I had much to talk about since the last time I saw him was six years ago.

Tom A. you are right! Rick has a wonderful Hoover collection, and as you can see in the picture, I had a great time using the Constellation with the wheeled rug nozzle. When I bought my vacuum store, I was lucky enough to find one of those nozzles in the back room. I keep it for use on my various Hoover canisters until I get the matching Connie. The Hoover collection of John Pease was fun as well. I'm not as good with numbers as you Hoover experts are, but I thoroughly enjoyed using Johns bright orange and tan (seal griege?) portable to vacuum the basement couch, then finishing the carpet with a Convertible 69.

Derreck, thank you for bringing your new Lux's for everyone to see. Considering the fact that I have no Lux office in the area, that is a rare opportunity for me! I also enjoyed seeing your wonderful display of vacuums. You truly have some rare beauties in the bunch.

The orange Sebo Felix you see in the pictures came from my store. It's quite an unusual machine, but due to its versatility, it has been a popular seller. Also, the mini-meet attendees were kind enough to put up with my never ending Miele obsession, and by way of demonstrating the Champagne that Tom G brought, I think I may have earned it some new fans!

Sadly, all good things must come to an end, but the delicious breakfast at Tom G's house definitely eased the pain this morning. We had some fun with his collection and then it was time to head back home.

Once again, thank you to everyone who hosted this marvelous event and I hope to see you all again soon. I also look forward to reconnecting with old friends next year in Omaha and making some new ones!

Andy

Have You tried out any of the new s5 series Miele's? They are quite awsome I just bought me a Brand new s5 series Aquarius and I'm totally impressed with it and I'm so lucky to have bought it and i did get an awsome deal on it from my local Miele dealer. I know it was expensive and probably if I would have waited to get one on ebay I would have probably paid alot less for it but I wouldn't have gotten the extra 5 year extended warrenty or the seb536 power nozzle free with my purchase. I looked at a miele internet dealer and if I would have went thru him I would have paid like 400.00 then I paid for mine.

I was originally suppose to buy the Red velvet as that's the one Evan bought and really loves it but when I saw the S5 series I just love there styling better then the previous styles and made up my mind as soon as I saw one on ebay that that's the one i wanted.

Great Weekend

I had a great time this weekend with everyone. I missed John's Friday night dinner due to a power line hanging over my drive due to the horrific storm we had here. I was very glad to see everyone arrive at my place on Sat., braving the ice and "crime scene" type tape across the front of my house because of the downed wire. It was great to see Andy, Clay and Patrick again, and what a surprise to see Marty, I don't think anyone had heard a peep from him since the convention! Thanks to John for preparing two great meals for everyone, he's quite the host, Martha Stewart would be proud. I would be remiss if I didn't mention vacuums here. I learned that when I'm ready to buy a "new" vacuum, I'm now leaning toward's the Sebo "Felix", what a nice machine, quiet, versatile, effective, and a steal at wholesale! Thanks Andy for bringing one with you. Thanks Tom for planning it, I think everyone enjoyed themselves, hopefully the weather will be better for the next one and more people will be able to attend. Derreck, thanks for being our photographer for the weekend, nice pics, but you promised you would "air-brush"! LOL!

I made it home yesterday (Monday) evening tired, but having had a great weekend with good friends and fun vacuums. It was great to see everyone. A very special thanks to John Pease, who put me up at his home. Seems that due to the storm and so many people being without electricity, there wasn't an available hotel room in a 45 mile radius, according to one of the hotels I talked to. As of today, Tom still doesn't have electricity at his store, and has been unable to open since last Thursday, and the power company tells him that his power should be back on by this coming Thursday. That's a killer for a business owner. But, back to the mini-meet, a special thanks to John P., again, along with Rick Asquith, for their hospitality in letting us into their homes and feeding us. For me this was quite an interesting trip, but well worth it.

Glad to hear you made it back okay. That's a long drive. I get impatient after about two hours of sitting in the car. It was great seeing you this weekend....and I was elated to find another Three Degrees fan!!

I'm glad I came back to visit this thread. More pictures and posts have been added! Looks like everyone had a great time.

Convertoskip, I love your new Miele. The colors are awesome. Looks like some new models have come out, guess it's time to visit the website! Maybe I'll have to get a new one (LOL).

I have a question about that Sebo Felix: does that cloth part puff out like a soft bag when it's on, or is it just for appearance sake?

Post# 5368-12/5/2006-23:43 ||| Andy (Springfield, Missouri)

Scott

The cloth part does puff out a little; its actually the exhaust filter. Great to see you on here!

I love that GE upright with the handle release on the handle and a pocket on the bag for the cord. My grandmother had one and retired it to the garage when she got a hoover convertible. In the mid 70"s when our hoover convertible(special 33) took a turn for the worse we "borrowed" that from grandma. Did not compare to the convertible-loved using it though. This is the model that someone on the other forum calls the first ball design that flopped. I don't think it flopped because of the ball design - it just wasn't that good of a vacuum. Mom bought the cheapest convertible possible in 77 and we gave back the ge. I hated that convertible it was soooo cheap. I tried for years to destroy and finally in the early 80's my dream came true and we got a concept one Mom still uses to this day. Sadly my aunt borrowed the GE, destroyed it then gave it to goodwill.
