Here is a close up of a large framed picture that I found with Buffalo Joe this weekend. It probably hung in the factory lobby. This picture dates from 1951-1953 era.
From Left to right top to bottom:
President Hattersly...the first non Hoover family member to run the company. The younger brother of H.W. Hoover, Frank G., of "The Fabulous Dustpan" fame took over for the elder H.W. but had heart trouble and had to step down. Therefore the next man in line was Mr. Hattersly...only until a new President could be groomed though.
Center Top...Herbert William Hoover(1877-1954) served as company president from 1922 until 1948 (parkinsons disease)when his brother Frank stepped in. Here he is Chairman of the Board. He is the eldest son of Boss Hoover (1849-1932).
Top Right...H. Earl Hoover son of Boss Hoover's brother Frank K. Hoover from the Chicago area. He was with the company from the begining and was Vice President at this point. I am not sure of his dates.
Bottom Left...O. M. Mansager was another VP and would later become the next first non Hoover family member to be president of the company. That would not happen until 1966 and that is a LONG story. He retired with the company in 1975.
Bottom Right...H.W. Hoover Jr. (Herbie)...quite the character too...he took over as President of the company in early 1954 which he was groomed to do. This angered a lot of the family. H.W. Senior passed in Sept. of 1954 and did not get to see his son carry out many of his plans. Frank G. also passed in Dec. of 1954. Herbie was responsible for the rapid growth of the Hoover Company and wanted to make it a competitor with GE product for product. In a take over, he was ousted in 1966 while recovering from a heart attack in FL. He remained on the board however.
I grabbed this for $30 and was happy to find it before it found its way to the landfill. Just another piece of Hoover history saved!
