Our club historian/editor has a birthday tomorrow, he will be 56 years young. For those of you who do not know Alex, he is actually one of the clubs founding fathers. He has a great deal of knowledge concerning non-electric and very early electric machines.

Lets all make this a special day for Alex.

Beautiful LX

Thanks Terry. The LX is one of my favorite machines! It's ugly as hell in relation to many of the other vintage models, especially when compared with the stunningly beautiful, streamlined Machine Age XXX -- it really is an example of what happens when people who manufacture vacuum cleaners design them instead of letting designers design them!

But it has an endearing quality about it, sort of the "ugly stepchild" I guess you could say. I always admired its sheer weight and bulk -- weighing in at 37 lbs with the Companion and Cord Winder! And of course the amazing bag ejection system is a sheer wonder to behold ... when it works properly!

I especially like the way the LXI model trundles around on its three wheels. It glides along the floor so gracefully, kind of like a 1952 four-door Plymouth sedan!

But I am sure many dainty housewives complained about the LX's mass and is probably why the next model, the "featherweight" Model E, was so lighweight and dainty.......

From Alex Taber

What a lovely way to spend a birthday, with my vacuum cleaner buddies both the old timers that were with me from day one, to guys I've never met yet.

Answer to the question will I be there in Omaha? Try to keep me away!!

This club is growing in leaps and bounds. Who would think that out of a handful of guys in my mom's family room talking about vacuum cleaners back in 1985, that THIS would be the result. Way to go guys!

I want to extend my birthday wish to Tanya, may she get a vacuum cleaner on her special day. What am I saying? a lot of vacuum cleaners!

Electrolux Model LX

What a lot of you don't know is that it's the Electrolux Model LX that both started my interest at the tender age of 2, and brought me out of limbo in 04.

I thought the club was long gone in March of that year, then I stumbled into Charles Richard Lester's website and the Electrolux Extravaganza. He ended with "good night Mr. Taber-- where ever you are!" That did it! I looked up VCCC, then called Ken Wagman, his comment was "we will hold the convention in Chicago in June" his next comment was simple and direct. "Be there!"

The rest, as they say, is history.

I feel the Electrolux "LX" are very beautiful machines-massive,lots of chrome-I have two-but due to the climate here-the bag ejector machanisms are corroded beyond function.Got one from a swap shop in Ayden, the other from the Vacuum cleaner Hospital-someone dropped it off and Bill saved it for me.
