First of all, yes, I'm whining, but don't get me wrong...I'm delighted to be able to see everything on this site, and to read everything that everyone has to share.

But, to Mr. Seger, or whoever has the necessary powers: could you please specify a character set on these pages? I use Unicode by default, but that doesn't seem to be the norm here, so I often nonsense characters in the discussions. Just one little META line at the top of the page would make things a lot easier on my eyes.

Thanks.

Nope Sorry Byron, I'm not going to add any new code to write META tags into these pages without first seeing what your seeing, so you have some 'splaing to do.

How exactly does one use Unicode?

Here goes

Here's what I see. Those ?'s should be rendered as dashes, quotation marks, or apostrophes (or other characters) but because there is no encoding specified, my browser doesn't know what to make of them. If you switch the text encoding in your browser preferences to UTF-8, you'll probably see the same thing.

What browser are you using? I want to try and replicate this.

To replicate it in Firefox, open the Options dialog, click the Languages button, and select Unicode (UTF-8) as the default character setting. VoilĂ .

I could of course change my encoding to find one that renders the page properly (ISO-8859-1, in this case, or more correctly Windows-1252) but then I'd be constantly switching back and forth just to view this one site.
