I have a friend who works at Tuesady Morning who knows i like vacuum cleaners. He lets me know if any vacuums come to the store. He was raving about a cute Oreck rip off called the Maid Lite. I went to see it and bought one. Its only uses 4.2 amps so it doesn't pull down on the carpet like my recently purchased Hoover Nano Lite (12 amps) vacuum does. I know amps don't clean carpets , airflow does. So much easier to push. It has a 25 ft cord ( hi Rick ) and i like that it takes bags! It really is an Oreck in disquise but so much cheaper LOL! It also weighs only 8 pounds. Sounds like an Oreck too. Oh and it's made in China of course. But it's a great "quick pick up" vacuum. I wouldn't use it on shag! LOL!
nice maid lite... so you got the Nano Lite?? i've stopped to look at that one several times. sure it not really a true Hoover, but it looks like its well made. can you show us please, Martin?
It does look well made. There is a switch that shuts the brush roll off. The attachments are the usual toothbrush and wand slash crevice tool. I think the only thing Hoover about this vacuum is the logo! It was an impulse buy at Wal Mart. I have used it once! I should take it back.
The dirt cup empties from the bottom. You still have to get the dust that clings to the filter....with your fingernails! Okay, just kidding, just use another vacuum.
The Maid Lite looks not half bad. Is it a fake copy with absolutely no connection to Oreck or is there a connection in there somewhere?
The Hoover gives me the willies though just thinking about that nasty dirt cup full of schmutz after use. Looks like nothing more than what you get on a dustbuster.
I love that Maid Lite, who makes it? I would also agree with Pete on the Hoover...another messy bagless machine. Although, it does have above the floor cleaning ability, which could be helpful.
Hoover also makes a bagged machine that also takes the place of the Oreck machine. I can't think of the name of it now, but it seems to clean very well. Fred S. demonstrated it for me one day while I was at his shop in Milwaukee.
I have a Nano Lite and think it's a great machine and very much a Hoover! I was looking for the GE dual-cyclone bagless at Wal-Mart, which was nowhere to be found at this particular location (though I did find it on my vacation in a different area), when I came across the Nano Lite. It was only $49 so I took a chance, and when I got it out of the box, I was surprised. It seems VERY well made like eluxo said for an inexpensive Wal-Mart machine, and a MUCH better alternative to the Oreck (and the other lightweight fare such as the Eureka Optima and DD Dynamite) as it actually cleans. That brushroll pulls it across the carpet, let me tell you! Surprisingly powerful for its size. I love mine. The modern variation of the Junior 115.
Of course the downside is the filter, but there's a handy orange slider-thingy on the back that you can clean the filter with and not touch the dirt. Pet hair does tend to stick which is an annoyance, but is easily removed either by hand or with another vacuum if enough slider movement doesn't loosen it. Even so, the entire bin/filter assembly is easily disassembled. I took mine apart and blew it out with the air compressor in less than 5 minutes.
The brushroll on/off is controlled by a 'belt shifter', which slides the belt back & forth between the brushroll and a free-wheeling bearing. When you put it in the bare floor position, the brushroll turns for about 2 seconds and then it stops.
Below is a pic of mine. By the way, Morgan, I believe the Hoover lightweight you mentioned is Tacony-made and identical to the Riccar Supralite, FYI. Again, much better alternative to the Oreck! :)
Last weekend while touring through the new Kohl's store here in Greenville-saw an interesting sight-the new Hoover lightweight vacs are no longer Riccar "Superlites"but instead they are the new Royal lightweights.Makes sense since the same company that owns Royal now has acquired Hoover.
$250 but on sale now for $200, and lol, it uses B bags!

I've never used one but I want one. They're pretty cheap but I don't know anyone who has one so haven't had any experience with one yet.
I currently have the Royal Commercial lite vacuum-it does indeed use Royal "B" bags and has a replaceable 50ft cord.Like this trend-when the cord wears out you can easily replace it-and buy one in any length you need.TheRroyal dealer here was saying the other Royal commercial uprights were going to have replaceable cords.I tried to look up the price on the Hoover -"royal" vac on Kohls website and they have no mention of the machine.they also list Dysons-none of those were at the store in my area.Would have to look in the store.The Royal lightweight machine does work-seems more powerful than an Oreck but not more powerful than the Riccar SuperLite.My deep carpets bog any of these machines down.The lightweight machines are fun,though.The Royal dealer out here has both the Commerical models and the home models.The home models have a headlight and a non replaceable 2wire cord.
