I have a Hoover Celebrity II Estate that has the heavy electric hose and it has stress crack up near the wand end. It's not all the way through yet, can anyone recommend a bonding glue of sorts that will adhere and stay when vacuum is put into use? I'm gifting it to a friend for use and don't want to use tape unless I have to.

I picked up a tube of silicone type caulking I'm going to try out on the small tear in my Kenmore Powermates hose. Has anyone tried this before. Another product I saw from Rubbermaid I think it was,, small plastic beads that you heat in boiling water then they sort of melt and you can mold them into broken plastic items.. never seen the stuff before anywhere, but it was expensive so I'm trying the silicone first.

Since now was as good a time as any I went upstairs and attempted this fix.. Here's a pic of the damaged hose

With some clear silicone. The store I was at didn't have any white. Rather than try to squeeze together the split I figured I'd fill the hole wide apart as trying to glue the split together would probably not work and re split open. Now I'll let it dry overnight

What I've done is taken a soldering iron and melted the vinyl/plastic. It was like painting, brush strokes across the tear until it was covered. Don't play with it too much. Let cool, and voila...

Not pretty, but very sturdy!

Well I couldn't wait and went up to see how the silicone worked and it worked very well to plug the leak.

Thanks Pete! I'll be off to Lowe's to pick some up today. The break on my Hoover hose is not all the way through, so this may be a good preventative from doing so. Glad you got the bags, isn't that a great stick vac?

I'm next going to try smearing some of this silicone stuff thinly near the coupling ends of my Elux woven hose where it's leaking

And as promised above here is a repair to an Elux woven hose which has worked quite well also. All that is left to do now is shave or sand the rough spots of silicone off. You can see where it globbed in peaks. The stuff dries quite rubbery and flexible and non sticky so hopefully it will last. Anyways, it's worth a try and a cheap and easy fix, certainly better than tape LOL. I'll take anothe pic after I sand it down

I finished both ends of the Elux hose and here's how it looks, barely noticeable. This appears to be a cheap and VERY easy fix. Forget tape.
