In the course of searching around for vacuum info on the web, I ran across the Vax brand. It looked a lot like the Bosch upright, and sure enough, I found out that Bosch makes the Vax cleaners.

Tonight at sears...
I tried the VAX purple and it looks like an ok machine BUT, on the inside of the dust bin thier is a filter of some sort that probroly will clog. It is one big cyclone. And last, the powerbrush shounds like a whistle.

Are we talking about the Vax AVC1 & 2 here? Because I used to have one of those! Just a single large cyclone drum with a filter inside, contained in a mesh - and yes, it did clog! Performance-wise, it was brilliant with a very clever edge-cleaning system that worked really well. The narrow cleaning head means the suction is intensified over a smaller area, so it cleans very efficiently. And the front-mounted removable wand was a great idea too - the thing that annoyed me about that was that the wand has bristles at the end - very short bristles, almost like stubble, and this is a poor substitute for a proper dusting brush / upholstery tool!
