I am curious about the this model. I have never seen the hose before, all that I have seen had the gas pump style handle with the sliding controlls on the front. The canister also looks different from what I am familiar with.

the UK faction seems to be more familiar with this model. see the other Picture of the Day thread in the vintage forum. im not sure if this is a US model?

I thought afterwards it should be here ;)- I was thinking pre 85!

It def isnt a UK model- the powerhead is totally different from ours which were very plain looking and had no headlamp.

This is the first range of Hoover cylinder vacs with remote control & power head etc, it first came out in the early 80`s, quiet yet powerful....

This is the TOL System 50, model S3328, made in France like the UK Convertables (your DAM`s). 1000w motor power with 170w power head.

Variable controls on the handle, switch for the power head on/off, Manual control gives variable motor speed by slider control, along with a "Max Boost" switch , Fully Auto gives automatic floor sensing suction requirements. Tools all store under the top....complete with paper bag, air filters and the famous "Apple Scented" air freshner disc.

so why did the UK get that seemingly modern, lightwieght hose and the US got that horrible fat-ass one?

I have one of the POD machines, however, it needs a new hose. I haven't checked into yet, I'm sure the original issued hose is long gone, but hopefully there is a replacement available. I also have a black Dimension Electronic which I guess was the comparable model made in the U.S. It works beautifully. I had given the Electronic 1000 to an ex as a parting gift, and got it back last year with the hose taped, and the end broken off. Really a shame, it was a great vac. Since the U.S. has the most overweight population in the world, I'm not surprised that we got the "fat-ass" hose! One of the reasons that I bought it was because of the hose, thought it was really neat at the time.

Well, it got the best of me, I went down to the basement where I store my ugly or incomplete b*****s, and checked it out. It too was made in France, I had forgotten. The black ring at the wand end of the hose is gone, therefor will not lock onto the wand. I fired it up and still sounds great on all the variable speeds with full suction. I was informed that there is a replacement hose for it, but runs over 100.00 and that's at cost. Don't know that I would do that, though is a shame to have the machine in running condition and not be able to use it. It takes the L bags if I remember correctly and I even have an unopened pack, maybe I should invest in the hose.

Believe me.....

Theres nothing lightweight about the UK hoses lol- they are obsolete over here but were about £60 odd 15 yrs ago!!!!!!!!

Believe me those electric hoses are FAR from lightweight lol!- they are obsolete over here now but were horribly expensive :-(- bout £55 odd 10 years ago!!

I have to agree those hoses are sooooo rigid & solid, they only go one way and thats "Straight"...Its a nice vac to use but the hose could do with being a couple of feet longer..IMHO.

I remember that cream hose, was a little more pliable than the later ones but not as sturdy...Do you have any original "Hoover" bags in stock ??
