hey guys my best friend died a couple of months ag o and i inherited his kirby g 6. nice machine but the only problem he had cats and a dog and i cant get the odor out of the machine after changing the bag no luck any suggestions

try this, it will work get some regular scent FEBREEZE- not the aerosol but the regular spray( In your cleaning aisle or laundry aisle) laundry aisle at walmart here.. Spray the inside of cloth bag and the outside then let them dry and your smell will be gone... I use this trick all the time it really works.. I even spray the paper bag lightly sometimes if it isn't full yet and it gets a little smelly and poof the smell is all gone ... I hope this works for you... the tech drive doesnt work on the 6 either fairly simple fix?

The Techdrive could be a number of things--a broken belt (rare), a mis-adjusted handle mount (where the handle connects to the machine) (most likely cause) or a bad transmission. Worst case, you can get a new tech drive for around 100 bucks, installation isn't too bad.

If the handle is the issue, that can be adjusted without too much difficulty. The techdrive is reliable, but as it ages it loses some force and has to be re-adjusted to have the same performace. This is done by loosening the handle mount and re-tightening it, noting at what point the clutch engages in forward and reverse.

When you put the drive pedal in "D", do you hear any sort of a whiny noise or a noise different than when the pedal is in "N"? If you hear nothing, it could mean the belt has either slipped off or broken (again, rare, but I have seen it) and a 2.00 part will fix it. I would start here, and then adjust the handle. If neither of those fix the situation, you have a bad transmission.

i would wash the bag. remove it from the emptor if possible. vacuum the inside of the bag and put it into the washer. a front-loading machine is best. if you must leave the bag attached to the emptor, pull a coupla socks over it to cushion it. you may have to scrub the emptor by hand on the inside. if dander has coated the interior of the brush chamber/fancase, you have quite a chore ahead of you, but its worth it. the nozzle will need a good scrubbin' on the inside. clean the brushroll with disinfectant. the fancase may need to be taken apart.

In REALLY bad cases of Kirby bag odors-you will need to Replace the outer cloth bag-esp if it was used by a smoker.Its worth it.Washing the bag could reduce its effectiveness as a final filter.I have had to do this with Kirbys that were used by smokers.Have you tried to put a new bag in the machine-then raise the nozzle height all the way up-put it outside on a DRY,clean, patio and run it for several minutes-sometimes outside air can freshen the machine.

i just took a look at my G3 bag. it can be quite a pain to wash the bag and emtor(?) together. the inside of the emtor can hold onto a lot of crud. some oily pet dander can stick, and need to be scrubbed out. the tie kirby uses to secure the bag to the emtor is a bitch. i would only recommend washing the entire assembly in a front loader, with rugs or towels added to cushion. on a high-water cycle. with socks pulled over the emtor to cushion some more. replacing the bag may not be a bad idea, though you will still have to have the tie applied, and the emtor cleaned.

I would be concerned about trying to clean the whole bag and mini emptor in any sort of washer.Esp front loaders-be sure you have any hi-temp wash cycles turned off-otherwise the heated water could deform the emptor or bag.they are made from plastic materials.I think it would be easier and better to order a whole new bag assembly from Kirby or ESSCO.I have seen them priced around $140 complete-new cloth bag,paper bag feed tube and Mini-emptor.Its well worth it.And its all assembled-just put it on the machine.
